No.1 Hot-Rolled Stainless Steel Finish

No.1 is the heat-treated and pickled hot-rolled finish used on stainless plate and heavier coil where function, corrosion resistance and fabrication matter more than appearance.

Appearance

  • Matte, non-uniform grey surface with the visual texture typical of descaled hot-rolled plate.

Production route

  • Hot rolling
  • Solution annealing
  • Descaling and pickling
  • Optional leveling or grinding

Typical uses

  • Pressure equipment
  • Chemical tanks
  • Structural fabrication
  • Heavy cut parts

Purchase-order checks

  • Plate or coil route
  • Thickness tolerance
  • Flatness class
  • Pickled surface acceptance
  • Grinding or blasting after fabrication

Protection and acceptance

  • Order bare, paper-interleaved or protected according to handling risk
  • Define whether local conditioning or grinding is permitted
  • Inspect remaining scale, pickling uniformity, pits and plate flatness to the governing standard

Common defects to control

  • Residual scale or pickling shadow
  • Local grinding marks
  • Handling scratches and plate waviness
