Match the standard to the job
The same “304 pipe” phrase covers three different products. A554 is structural/decorative tube — ornamental railings, furniture — where surface finish rules. A312 is pressure-rated process pipe, supplied per NPS schedule with hydrostatic or eddy current testing. A249 covers thin-wall heat exchanger tube. Quote requests that name the standard get faster, more accurate pricing.
Polishing
Polishing from 180 to 600 grit or hairline can be reviewed against the requested sample and supply route. A 400-grit finish is commonly specified for railing work; 600 grit approaches mirror for interior applications. Individual sleeves and other surface protection must be specified and confirmed with the finish and packing route.
