Condition controls the properties
Ordering only “17-4 PH” is incomplete. Solution-treated Condition A is supplied for later aging, while H900 through H1150 conditions provide different strength, toughness and stress-corrosion behavior. State the required condition and governing property set.
Machining stock
Diameter tolerance, decarburization or surface removal, straightness and machining allowance should match the component route. Ground bar can reduce preparation time for close-tolerance shafts.
Documentation
For aged bar, request heat-treatment temperature and mechanical results tied to the material heat and lot. Finished-part re-aging or welding must follow a qualified procedure.
